Lake Garda, Italy
We were lucky enough to take a trip to Lake Garda in Italy on our way to the UK this year. Lake Garda is the most beautiful place filled with every sport you could hope for! We squeezed into our week kite surfing, windsurfing, paddleboarding, wakeboarding, sailing, swimming, mountain biking, hiking & of course sampling the delicious Italian cuisine and wondering the beautiful streets of Riva.
We flew into Verona which is about a 2 hour drive from Riva Del Garda where we were staying. As we drove around the corner and first saw the lake we were overwhelmed with how beautiful it was and also that it was WINDY! For any windsurfer out there its pretty exciting to get to a new spot and see 100s of windsurfers on the water! We knew we had come to the right place!
We spent our first day hiking up to a tiny church nestled into the mountain side. Was great to get up high & see the area from above and then hit the water in the afternoon for a great windsurf.
We spent a few days mountain biking as the weather was just perfect. We took the cable car up to the top of Monte Baldo with our mountain bikes, and cycled down and then up again to the top of Mount Altissimo, before heading downhill all the way back to Riva. We also cycled to the bright blue lake Lago di Tenno. the mountain biking around Lake Garda was awesome!
We tried Kitesurfing which was loads of fun, but unfortunately the wind wasn’t great those days, so ended up paddle boarding, wake boarding and swimming instead!
The hiking around Riva was also spectacular, I would like to get back to this area again for a multi day hike.
I would definitely recommend visiting Lake Garda and I am keen to get back there again for another visit!
